  CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR MEN?

  any suggestions for what to get besty this year?

  it's our first christmas and it's his birthday on boxing day!!

  What DOES DAing say to a JW?

  besty and i are of the opinion that if more people da'd and said they didn't believe in the whole thing, it would send a serious message to jws.

  you wouldn't need to actually criticize the organisation, avoiding the 'apostate' label.

  we know that for many, fading is the only option right now, because of the pain involved in losing friends and family but, surely, if enough people went down this route, then more would have the courage to do the same?

  I know that the society do not make the distinction anymore when announcing you are no longer a witness.
  
  However, if you got to everyone first and told them you were disassociating yourself because you didn't believe it anymore (strictly no more detail than that) then even thought the announcement is the same, the important people would know the real situation.
  
  Surely some would start to think and not assume i) you are an apostate or ii) you want to just go and do something immoral ?

  do you find it difficult to know what to get for your beloved for christmas?

  (assuming you celebrate it!)..

  my wife says to me "don't get me anything, i'd rather we saved the money to get away next year.".

  Anything by Molton Brown, especially bath soak and body lotion.
  
  Diamonds (earrings/bracelet/necklace/ring) depending on how far you want to push the boat out.
  
  CD's and books.
  
  Godiva chocolates - they're the best.
  
  A day at a Spa or just a massage at a good local beauty salon.
  
  Paul Smith has a gorgeous new perfume called 'Rose'.
  
  Anything by Jo Malone - candles etc.
  
  A beautiful diary/filofax for next year or just a gorgeous notebook (Paperchase and Smiths have some lovely ones).
  
  Hope this helps.

  Besty and I are of the opinion that if more people DA'd and said they didn't believe in the whole thing, it would send a serious message to JWs. You wouldn't need to actually criticize the organisation, avoiding the 'apostate' label.

  Or do the dubs immediately think when someone DA's that 'Satan has got another one' and stop their brains from pursuing the matter any further?
  
  What IS the best way to help JWs to really think?
  
  I have mixed feelings right now about the whole thing.

  Re-introducing myself to JWD

  i'm gonna reintroduce myself (got a new nickname, the other one would've blown away my identity in, say, three seconds)...so some of this might read familiar to some people here:.

  after a very, very slow process, thinking over things that were stored in a little box in a corner of my mind, i've finally confirmed all the doubts i've had about the society and about jehovah's witnesses.

  i'm a 36 year-old man, work as a software developer, married, with two kids, ages 10 and 3. i was "born" in the organization.

  Mr. Flippers Son Anti-Witnesses to his Fanatic Witness Mother

  so, my 22 year old son called me this morning and said his witness mom, my ex, sent him this website link- http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,313683,00.html .

  it is an artcicle about a 14 year old witness boy with leukemia who died because of refusing a blood transfusion.

  doctors said he would have had a 70 % chance of surviving to live a normal life if he had accepted blood.

  i have been so reluctant to post basically because i am so torn about exposing my personal life.

  i happen to come across this website by mistake about 6 months ago.

  i agreed with your opinions of the jws view on higher education and independent thinking that i found on this website.

  Hi and welcome. You'll love it here, it's a great place, one that helped me to leave.
  
  It is so frustrating talking to ones we love that can't see the obvious but jwfacts hit the nail on the head and it really is unlikely that anything you say will change your mum, just continue to love her and be there for her (I'm saying this to try and convince myself too. LOL)
  
  And have children - they're the best thing that ever happened to me (apart from Besty of course!). The joy of seeing them grow up without the issues of being JWs is pure heaven.

  being an outsider as opposed to being an insider

  there have been a few posts lately on the board where people are giving their experiences in talking with jws they meet in day to day life.

  this got me thinking of something i've never seen a post about on this board.

  because of a number of different factors it seems that jws have a very unbalanced approach in the way they deal with criticism.

  You're spot on Drew.
  
  It makes it frustrating for us, because we have no influence over former JW friends or Besty's family.
  
  However, we can and do feed others with ammunition to draw Witnesses out and maybe <GASP> open their minds.
  
  Following hearing my experience of being DF'd, an acquaintance told me about her subsequent conversation with a JW colleague. They discussed how cruel she thought shunning was just because one didn't believe identically anymore - the JW seemed almost delighted with the anticipation of it all. My friend is planning another session once I have primed her with more hotspots. <evil grin>
  
  This is our ministry now..... :-)

  $1000.00 Birthday present for D/F'd son today...his first at 22

  yep that's right and it was cash....and i took him to dinner too....what a blast.

  my son has been a real pain in the @ss for years, but i love him to death and know that tons of his problems were jw related.

  i am a recent fade remember and was a little worried dubs would be at the place when the wait staff sang happy birthday and all.
